Why have I never heard of this?? That thing looks gorgeous! Tell me Oppo, what is this sexy little car? Is it good? Bad? Tell me EVERYTHING!! I think I like this more than my Winter Fox Body plan.

They're...interesting. You should also check out the Mitsubishi 3000GT or the Subaru SVX.

Best to let him down slowly. Gently.

All are the same car?

How does your head feel after being stuck under a rock for all those years lol . My close buddy has a stealth as his Lemons car if that paints any picture for you.
07/24/2014 at 12:30 |
|
It's basically a rebadged Mitsubishi 3000GT.
![]() 07/24/2014 at 12:30 |
|
Basically it's a Mitsubishi 300GT wrapped in an American flag.
![]() 07/24/2014 at 12:30 |
|
They're about the worst choice you could make for a cheap, reliable winter DD if that's what you're going for. Engine access is hilariously bad and they weigh as much as a small cruise ship. Cool GT cars but expect difficult maintenance on par with a 300ZX TT.
![]() 07/24/2014 at 12:30 |
|
I couldn't have put it any other way. I will be watching this thread to see what happens next...
![]() 07/24/2014 at 12:31 |

Have you heard of the Mistubishi 3000 GT? yes? Then you have heard of this. its just that mistu with a dodge badge. they were produced side-by-side in the same plant, and lot of ppl actually convert their stealths into 3000 GTs (also knows as the GTO)
word of warning though. The top of the line models (which is the only one you want) had AWD, 4-wheel-steer, twin turbos, and a whole of mess of electronics that are NOT all that reliable. its an EXPENSIVE car to run as a DD, so I would avoid it as a winter beater. this would be more like the "nice car" (the spot currectly occupied by that 944)
The lower down version were better in terms of reliability, but they had FWD (which, for a winter beater, isnt so bad, now tht I think about it) and no turbos
![]() 07/24/2014 at 12:31 |

stay the hell away from it. Stupid Mitsubishi 3000GT in dodge clothing. Seriously fun when sorted, but kind of a nightmare to own. Especially in turbo guise
![]() 07/24/2014 at 12:32 |
|
3000gt captive import. Mechanically, it's the same car as the 3000gt.
![]() 07/24/2014 at 12:32 |
|
It's a Mitsubishi 3000GT with different styling on the front & rear fascias, rear quarter windows, and taillights. Same mechanicals, same interior.
![]() 07/24/2014 at 12:32 |

So it must be good then? Or worth something?
![]() 07/24/2014 at 12:32 |
|
Not sure if good or bad..
![]() 07/24/2014 at 12:32 |
|
That sounds nice.
![]() 07/24/2014 at 12:33 |
|
Damn....Why is it that all of my choices for winter cars suck?
![]() 07/24/2014 at 12:33 |
|
Why would you make the non-turbo, non-clusterfuck versions FWD. Fucking penny pinching sadist asshole engineers and car manufacturers.
![]() 07/24/2014 at 12:34 |
|
The Mitsu and the Dodge are. The Subaru is just another awesome 90's coupe. All of them competed against things like the Nissan 300ZX.
![]() 07/24/2014 at 12:34 |
|
I'm very very hesitant to say the Dodge stealth is a good car I know they came in a V6 Twin Turbo AWD version like the 3000GT VR-4 did but as far as being reliable .... ehhh ummmm I don't think so ... But. I've never had one.
![]() 07/24/2014 at 12:34 |
|
What about the lower line models?? And it's FWD?? It doesn't look like it is; DO NOT WANT NOW!
![]() 07/24/2014 at 12:35 |
|
Same monster as the Mitsubishi 3000GT
I drove a Mitsu 3000GT VR-4 back in the late 90s and it was great! Tons of power, great sounds, nice smooth transmission, torque everywhere... but they are maintenance nightmares. Mitsubishi packed a lot of really cool stuff into them and it all worked well until the warranty was up.
Ignore any Stealth/3000GT that's not turbocharged. They still weight like 4,000 lbs and only have 160-222 horses. Not enough to make it worth all the electrical gremlins, in my mind.
![]() 07/24/2014 at 12:36 |
|
Is that good?
![]() 07/24/2014 at 12:36 |
|
Neat. Looks like a fun-ish car
![]() 07/24/2014 at 12:37 |
|
the top of the line is AWD.
but what everyone else said: these cars are a fucking maintenance NIGHTMARE.
The lower line models can be had for CHEAP (althought they are usually autos too..blegh) id avoid them unless you really wanted a piece of JDM history (a-la skyline, supra, RX7) but want to be a little left-field about your choice.
![]() 07/24/2014 at 12:37 |
|
Why is that?
![]() 07/24/2014 at 12:37 |
|
They're pretty much identical to the Mitsubishi 3000GT. The crappy part is non R/T models are FWD, and some even had a SOHC engine, barely eeking out 100hp.
![]() 07/24/2014 at 12:38 |
|
SVX looks nice. Seems hard to find though.
![]() 07/24/2014 at 12:38 |
|
Damn...All of my options for winter cars are either unreliable or too old!
![]() 07/24/2014 at 12:39 |
|
The top of the line model is fun and completely unreliable. The rest are not fun and somewhat above completely unreliable. Find a Subaru.
![]() 07/24/2014 at 12:39 |
|
You've never heard of a Dodge Stealth. They're everywhere. Usually beat up.
![]() 07/24/2014 at 12:39 |
|
Dodge Stealth = Mitsubishi 3000GT = DSM = heartache.
This isn't your winter beater. A ford probe would be a better winter beater and even that isn't a good idea.
Stick with the V6 pony car. Or get a stick shift blazer/ranger/S10/dakota for parts running when you upgrade the 944.
![]() 07/24/2014 at 12:39 |
|
Damn....Well forget I ever mentioned this car then... :(
07/24/2014 at 12:40 |
|
4wd, 4ws, active aero, 3 litre v6 available with twin turbos and electronically adjustable suspension. Also very complex and nightmare to fix if something goes horribly wrong.
![]() 07/24/2014 at 12:40 |
|
100hp yuck!
![]() 07/24/2014 at 12:40 |

umm..I herd this one time ... Let me think I'll remember ..
Oh yea the answer is always Miata !!!
this could be you !
![]() 07/24/2014 at 12:40 |

Dont worry about it, if you didnt tell us, we wouldnt have been able to warn u :)
![]() 07/24/2014 at 12:43 |
|
For performance, potentially. For reliability, not at all.
![]() 07/24/2014 at 12:45 |
|
Walker's buddy Trivette drove one, so they can't be all that bad.
Interestingly enough, there's one for sale on the route I drive to work everyday.
![]() 07/24/2014 at 12:45 |

Yeah....
![]() 07/24/2014 at 12:46 |

I have found your winter beater. I made a post about it. It is that damn good.
![]() 07/24/2014 at 12:46 |
|
Ok.... -_-
I hear Probes suck though. Very unreliable.
![]() 07/24/2014 at 12:46 |
|
AVOIDING!
![]() 07/24/2014 at 12:46 |
|
It is basically a 3000gt.
![]() 07/24/2014 at 12:46 |
|
But it can't!
![]() 07/24/2014 at 12:47 |
|
I'm exaggerating, it's about 160.......but still, is that any better?
![]() 07/24/2014 at 12:47 |
|
That does count for something. But why does it have to be soooooooo hard to find a winter car??
![]() 07/24/2014 at 12:47 |
|
It is a rebadged Mitsu 3000 minus the turbo. They look faster than they actually are and at this age, I can promise you they aren't very reliable. Might be a fun project car if you like playing around with Mitsubishi engines....which no one in their right mind does.
{EDIT}: I do have personal experience with one. My ex-'s uncle had one. Since I didn't like him very much, I didn't mind watching him squirm when it broke down repeatedly.
![]() 07/24/2014 at 12:48 |
|
Do you want one?
![]() 07/24/2014 at 12:49 |
|
From what everyone else has been telling me......
This car is shit!
![]() 07/24/2014 at 12:49 |
|
Yeah......NOPE!
![]() 07/24/2014 at 12:51 |
|
its not. go on list of criags for ur area, under 3k, buy the first thing that runs and drives. thats it.
OH, you want a winter car you kinda enjoy? sorry there pal, thats not what a winter car is XD
![]() 07/24/2014 at 12:53 |
|
Yeah, all of them are going to be somewhat hard to find in good nick.
![]() 07/24/2014 at 12:57 |
|
HORY SHEET BRO DAT BE DAT STEATH GTS-X-R-SRT HEMIHELLCOPTERCAT AWD WIT 2 V6s AND 4 TURBOS (VEYRON STYLE MUAFUGGA!) GET DIS, GET A CATBACK AND KILL TWIN TURBO FERRARIS BRO!!!!
....
No, not really. I mean, everyone else already said what it is, so I had to find some way to (poorly)contribute. Not really good for a winter beater, but great if you like the smell of burning money.
![]() 07/24/2014 at 12:57 |
|
Or something tolerable?
![]() 07/24/2014 at 13:00 |
|
you are looking for one or 2 models that you want (probably for drifting) thats isnt a winter beater. a winter beater is literally the first thing you find that runs and drives and isnt about to dump its diff on the ground. nothing more, nothing less.
![]() 07/24/2014 at 13:01 |
|
I'd daily the shit outta one. But then again, I'm me. Also, if my 10 year out of date stereotypes are still valid, I believe this is the Juggalo chariot of choice when a Chevy Blazer Xtreme is out of the question.
![]() 07/24/2014 at 13:02 |
|
It has 4 wheel steering which means great turning radius. It has twin turbos so BOOST. It has a sweet V6 and AWD so it is good in snow and off road. It is also faster than the NSX. I want one. But I would get Mitsu's version. YES I WANT ONE.
![]() 07/24/2014 at 13:02 |
|
Because you are young and ambitious haha
![]() 07/24/2014 at 13:03 |
|
Eh, towed one up a hill in a snowstorm once. With my Stratus. It was blocking both lanes of a highway so nobody could really get around. Probably would have been better with a few sandbags and snow tires, but that thing was not moving anywhere that day (though I got around fine on all seasons).
![]() 07/24/2014 at 13:05 |
|
Funny enough, saabkyle04 just put up a Stealth review.
![]() 07/24/2014 at 13:06 |
|
Well now you've went and ruined all stealths for everyone. I honestly thought of getting one as an unreliable DD(when it's not in the shop) Companion to all my other hilariously unreliable cars if I've ever hit the lotto. But people might think I'm a Juggalo if I get one??? NOPE Effff dat shit. * crosses Stealth off bucket list*
![]() 07/24/2014 at 13:07 |
|
Yeah...Already got one pile of burning cash; not in need of another.. -_-
![]() 07/24/2014 at 13:09 |
|
Is drifting such a bad thing?
![]() 07/24/2014 at 13:09 |
|
Yep...
![]() 07/24/2014 at 13:10 |
|
GO GET ONE!
![]() 07/24/2014 at 13:10 |
|
Yeah...
![]() 07/24/2014 at 13:11 |
|
That's why I made this thread.
![]() 07/24/2014 at 13:14 |
|
never said it was a bad thing.
what i'm saying (and please dont label me a jackass for this) is that you dont quite get the idea of a practival winter beater.
it meant to get you from point A-B as cheapy, safely and efficiently as possible. frankly, what you SHOULD be looking for is a corolla. none of this RWD, late 80's early 90's amrican BS or turboed, japanese Gt cars. A corolla or a camry. OR, if you can still find on, a tercel. thats what you NEED for the winter. i'm avoiding saying civics and accords because they have high insurance rates.
dont worry about a fun car. you have a freaking PORSCHE during the summer. focus your money and time into that, not something that will end up wraping you round a tree in the middle of december because your foot slipped on the clutch.
![]() 07/24/2014 at 13:17 |
|
:(
But Civics and Accords with high insurance rates??
![]() 07/24/2014 at 13:19 |
|
sorry to bring you down to earth like that bud.
and yea, in canada, the civic has one of the highest insurance rates of any car, simply because all the ricers buy them and mod/ricer the shit out of them, and then get busted by the cops or street racing.
doesnt help thats its the most stolen car in canada, which also jacks up the insurance rate.
accords are bad just by name-association. and some of them actually have 1/2 decent motors too.
![]() 07/24/2014 at 13:24 |
|
I always wanted one of these, until I met a man who owned one and realized that I wanted to be able to buy things like food and clothes, as opposed to paying to have the thing fixed.
![]() 07/24/2014 at 13:24 |
|
What do I do now?.......... -____-
![]() 07/24/2014 at 13:29 |
|
you get a corolla for the winter. they arent bad cars, just some what boring. Its not going to kill you on fuel, maintenance, or parts if something breaks. insurance is cheap too.
![]() 07/24/2014 at 13:35 |
|
If I couldn't handle driving a van for a week while my FoST was down, there's no way in hell I'll be able to handle a Corolla for an entire winter...Even if my life depended on it. :(
![]() 07/24/2014 at 13:44 |
|
a corolla drive nothing like a van. u could handle the sheer size and seating position.
look, just find one with a stick and drive it. you may change your mind. (and thank the gods I didnt tell you to go and look for a used prius)
![]() 07/24/2014 at 13:51 |
|
You need to get one.
![]() 07/24/2014 at 15:07 |
|
My grandfather had a friend that bought one used. Top of the line AWD R/T. His local shop had to pull the engine out of the thing just to change spark plugs, not even joking. I love the way they look, too, but if you don't want to have to plan for years and thousands of dollars in repair shops, I would steer clear of the AWD one. As much as I think they're good looking cars, I don't think it would make the best winter beater. My winter beater recommendation- AMC Eagle or a 90s Celica. Eagle for 4WD ( and I'm partial to AMCs) and Celica because it's a 90s Toyota. IT. WILL. RUN. FOREVER. I use an AE101 Corolla as my DD in winter, but a Celica would be better looking.
![]() 07/24/2014 at 17:52 |
|
Remind me again, what were your requirements for the beater?
![]() 07/24/2014 at 18:03 |
|
Well most importantly, I want a manual.
1. Something smaller than a truck
2. Something that can fit in this driveway:
3. Something that's RWD or AWD
4. Coupe, Sedan, Hatch or Wagon
5. Budget up to $3k(maybe even $3500, but I'm not gonna push it)
6. NOT BORING!
7. Not a van.
![]() 07/24/2014 at 18:20 |
|
Oh and something bigger than a 4-cylinder.
![]() 07/24/2014 at 23:44 |
|
300ZX, you say? Yes, I do pop up literally everywhere a 300ZX is mentioned.
![]() 07/24/2014 at 23:52 |
|
Not a bad Thing.
![]() 07/24/2014 at 23:56 |
|
If only this one was mine.....
![]() 07/22/2015 at 02:06 |
|
If you don’t know what you are talking about just don’t . Heavy in 91-99 is normal now. You did don’t know that? A 328 bmw basically weighs the same as the heavy gt car from japan in the 90’s. Give or take 100. 300 zx is RWD. RWD is not good in snow or ice. My Lexus Is 350 weighs 3700lbs. Bad in snow. My stealth however is great in it. It’s very nerd to crap on things you don’t understand.
![]() 07/22/2015 at 02:08 |
|
You think? That was the idea. It looked better as well.
![]() 07/22/2015 at 02:12 |

Agreed. Those cars made us question dating hot girls
![]() 07/22/2015 at 02:26 |

You aren't exaggerating. You are a googling clueless dummy. That car raised the bar for all manufacturers. Ferraris fastest car was mid 5s to 60. The base models were for.. Well people like you. Tool bags that haven't really owned many cars. What do you drive?
